The Capital Hotel Mbombela

Despite the restraints of Covid-19, Mbombela has experienced consistent economic growth over the past few years and has become a hub for both tourism and agriculture; a conferencing and eventing facility of the scale of The Capital Mbombela will greatly contribute to continued growth and job creation.

Building of the project began in September 2020, with the key attribute being natural light. The Capital Mbombela offers 100 hotel rooms and 50 apartment-style rooms. These suites include two bedrooms and a bathroom linked to a shared living space. Other amenities include the Elevate Restaurant and Bar, a pool and pool deck, a fitness centre, a state-of-the-art conference centre and a workspace section in the restaurant.

Boogertman and Partners were responsible for the design of the project. During April 2021 architect Greg Reid and Interior designer Anneke Ray approached Italtile Commercial’s Marius Maree, who assisted in proposing finishing solutions for the interiors of the hotel.

Marius, with his profound knowledge of the sustainable manufacturing processes of the Italtile tile portfolio, proposed a number of luxury tiles based on their LiveGreen credentials.

As a canvas, he proposed Proudly South African Spazio screed-look tiles by Ceramic Industries, who are pioneers of ECOTEC – world-leading processes in the manufacture of environmentally mindful tiles. Spazio reimagines the popular aggregate cement trend, and pays homage to Africa’s ever-growing concrete skyline and the starry African skies above with its flecked and splashed variances.

Neptune Charcoal 600x1200 was then added to the contemporary mood board as a feature tile – this is another ‘green’ tile by Ceramic Industries.

Contrast was added with Landstone Nuovo White (an authentic stone look tile), Aria White

(a timeless Subway tile) and a Shiny White 300X600 tile for the kitchen walls and back of house areas.
