How to Clean and Maintain Vinyl Floor Tiles for Longevity

April 24, 2024

Our extensive range of beautiful, resilient and low-maintenance vinyl floor tiles are durable, easy to install, and will transform your floors and space! Our Moda Vinile tiles are an impressive range of SPC (stone plastic composite) vinyl tiles that mimic the look of natural materials, and add elegance and functionality to any room.

Though deliciously soft underfoot, they are hard-wearing, and are available in ten versatile colours. Their click-lock plank design makes installation quick and easy. Their multiple layers and attached underlay make these luxury vinyl tiles resistant to spills, stains, scratches, dents, moisture, fire, and termites.

They can handle an impressive amount of foot traffic, are slip-resistant and can even be used with underfloor heating. Suitable for use in kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms or the office, Moda Vinile gives you the great look of hardwood, without the eye-watering price tag. If installed correctly and maintained properly, they’ll give you between 15 and 25 years of residential use!

However, it's important to note that while our vinyl flooring is tough, durable and easy to keep clean, using incorrect cleaning practices can damage your vinyl tiles.

Here’s how you should look after your new vinyl flooring properly:

General Maintenance of Vinyl Flooring

Cleaning vinyl flooring is straightforward and hassle-free if done correctly. For the general maintenance of your vinyl flooring, the correct cleaning process starts with sweeping or vacuuming to remove any loose dirt and debris, followed by a good mopping with a soft mop that must not be too wet.

Italtile offers a TFC luxury vinyl cleaner that is safe and easy to use on your vinyl flooring. You can also make your own effective cleaning solution by mixing one cup of vinegar with about four litres (one gallon) of water. For a deeper clean, occasionally add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to this water-vinegar solution.

Please note that it’s best not to mop daily - once a week should be quite sufficient. Just sweep or vacuum your vinyl flooring regularly, and spot-clean where needed with a damp cloth. It’s also advisable best to avoid getting excessive water onto your vinyl flooring.

Water can damage the flooring if allowed to seep into seams or joins, potentially causing your vinyl tiles to lift or warp. If you spill anything on your vinyl flooring, clean it off immediately if you can.

Tough Marks and Stains

Tough marks or stains on vinyl flooring are those that won’t come off through regular mopping or spot cleaning. Acidic stains from fruit juice, wine or tomato sauce can be removed by gently rubbing a paste of baking soda and water onto the stain with a cloth or sponge, and then wiping the area clean with your vinegar-water solution.

For waxy stains, like those from crayons, lipstick, candle wax or ink, use rubbing alcohol. Apply with a soft brush, and then wipe clean with your vinegar and water solution. Remember that the best way of dealing with spills is chop-chop!

Wiping them off the instant they occur is much easier than when they have dried and become set. Also, the less time they’re left on your floor, the less likely they are to damage your vinyl flooring.

What Will Ruin Vinyl Flooring?

To safeguard your vinyl flooring, avoid steam cleaners or steam mops since the high temperatures may damage your vinyl tiles. The heat generated by these devices could cause vinyl tiles to lift or warp, and may damage the top layer of the tile.

Avoid using harsh scourers or steel wool on your floor for they will scratch the protective coating. Also, steer clear of bleach or highly acidic cleaners, as they could harm the protective layer or cause the tiles to discolour. And never, ever be tempted to use harsh, chemical solvents on your vinyl floor.

There's also no need to wax or polish your vinyl tiles. These products create a sticky layer that builds up over time and attracts dust. For a gentle shine on your vinyl flooring, a few drops of baby oil in your vinegar and water solution now and then works wonders!

Italtile’s vinyl floor tiles are a smart and affordable choice for any home or office floor. They offer an appealing blend of good looks, functionality, durability, and ease of maintenance. Proper care, avoiding harsh chemicals and using gentle cleaning techniques, will extend the life and beauty of your vinyl tile floor for many years.

Our superb selection of vinyl floor tiles offer you unbeatable value and quality, and could provide the perfect choice for your kitchen, bathroom, living room or office.
