Commercial | The Leonardo

Aptly named after the polymath genius who lifted renaissance thinking to new heights, Legacy Hotel’s extraordinary Leonardo represents the rise of hope, where all eyes are on an African future. Its 234 metres of luxury have changed the Sandton landscape forever. 

Construction of the 55-storey megabuilding began in 2015, and Italtile Commercial joined the design brains trust with developers Legacy Hotels, along with Co-Arc International Architects and VaRoom Interiors. Our team was invited to select modern tiles and bathroom accessories for the Leonardo Hotel, and have oversight of all installation work.

A total of 900 m² of top quality weather-resistant tiles were required for the hotel balconies. The team chose eco-chic Klif porcelain tiles by Milanese tile masters Atlas Concorde: a deluxe, stone-look range inspired by the magnificent beola stone indigenous to Italy’s D’Ossola mountain region. Klif’s living stone look and authentic beola texture has deep detail with high variation in order to mimic nature as closely as possible.

The Klif range is perfect for high traffic outdoor areas, being non-porous, low maintenance and durable – all prerequisites for the harsh Highveld climate.

At 750 x 1500, these are majestic slabs, and their precision rectified edges are engineered for a near seamless finish.

4 500 pieces of deluxe bathroom accessories were required to finish the exquisite hotel bathrooms, and the Italtile Commercial team chose items from the Dominus range. Manufactured from solid brass and then chrome plated, Dominus accessories by Domline are a premium, Proudly South African brand that reflect a timeless elegance in design and finish. Exceptional, secure fixing systems and a lifetime warranty are cornerstones of the Dominus brand. 

The Leonardo was completed in 2019, and stands as a tribute to courageous, bold and future-forward thinking; Italtile Commercial is proud to have collaborated on this high profile, breakthrough project, and to have had a role in the creation of a new level of beautiful living, helping the design team to take luxury to new heights.
