The origins of slate lie in the ancient past, when mudstone and clay flakes were subjected to great forces of pressure and metamorphosed into a unique “flake foliation.” Slim, repetitive sheets of finely grained rock emerged, with a distinctively graceful layering of subtle colour, texture, and rippled movement.

Axis Dark is a sophisticated interpretation of natural Spanish slate, infused with deep, moody tones that enhance its inherent elegance. This 750 x 1500 mm matt rectified porcelain tile captures the unique foliated character of slate, blending its rich, earthy appeal with modern durability. A timeless choice, Axis Dark brings an air of refined drama to interiors and exteriors alike, making it the perfect foundation for contemporary and classic spaces.

THE MAKING

The Axis Dark tile is crafted using cutting-edge porcelain technology, ensuring exceptional quality and longevity. Its rectified edges are mechanically cut for precision, allowing for ultra-thin grout lines (approximately 1.5mm) that create a near-seamless surface. This enhances the visual continuity of floors and walls, lending a sense of spaciousness to any setting.

Advanced glazing and high-definition digital graphics authentically replicate the intricate veining, subtle variations, and silky texture of real slate. Sustainability is at the core of Rocersa’s manufacturing process, with each tile containing between 44% and 62% recycled material. Additionally, the factory employs state-of-the-art energy exchange systems, utilizing kiln heat to power tile dryers, reducing environmental impact.
